Meet Erin Scaia, Owner of Living by the Brush

In 2017 I experienced a traumatic event that left me with debilitating anxiety. My go-to coping mechanism for unpleasant feelings was to ignore them and hope they went away, but that wasn't happening this time. Hours-long panic attacks forced me to finally face my feelings.

I realized in order to be healthy physically, spiritually and mentally, I had to make a commitment to check in with my emotions instead of ignoring them. Mindful art has given me a safe and gentle way to process my feelings. By learning to be present with my emotions in a nonjudgmental way, I have improved my overall health and sense of well-being.

Now I am dedicated to sharing mindful art with others in the hopes it will help people maintain their health and well-being. I am convinced that if I had always had these tools then I never would have had a breakdown. As the saying goes, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

I completed Mindful Creative Muse's Mindful Art and Meditation Teacher Training, becoming a certified mindful art and meditation teacher. I then started Living by the Brush, a business which facilitates mindful art classes for adults in the Columbus, Ohio area. Being able to help people connect with themselves through art and seeing the good it can do has brought me more joy, purpose and fulfillment than I ever could have imagined.

Along with mindful art, I also like to do abstract, realistic and landscape paintings. When I'm not making or teaching art, I enjoy drinking tea, watching British period dramas, and quoting Bob Ross. There are no mistakes, only happy little accidents!
